Early childhood education teacher survey seeks input on national policy

Survey participation crucial
Our union is encouraging members who work in the early childhood education sector to participate in a survey being conducted by the University of Sydney looking into the professional registration of early childhood education teachers.
The survey is looking for participants who work in the sector, to ensure experiences of early childhood education teachers will be considered and help inform future national policy in this area.
National Review highlights issues for Early Childhood Education
The national teacher registration review commenced in February 2018 with the purpose of assessing the effectiveness of the current regulatory system and the extent to which there is consistency within, and between jurisdictions, in the way the National Framework for Teacher Registration is applied.
The review’s findings reflect that although a majority of early childhood education teachers are registered, some jurisdictions only register early childhood education teachers employed in school settings.
This means some early childhood teachers are not part of the registered profession of teaching, this important cohort of the teaching profession is currently, inconsistently recognised.
The review heard strong support for teacher registration to be extended to early childhood education teachers in all settings, across all jurisdictions.
Members input needed
The survey is an avenue to express views, opinions and lived experiences of early childhood education teachers when it comes to professional registration, professional development, personal wellbeing and the capacity to provide quality early childhood education.
Responses will be used in publications and conference presentations to inform developing national policy on the registration of early childhood education teachers, and it is essential these decisions are made based on the experiences of early childhood education teachers.
The survey is open until late November to all early childhood education teachers in Australia who work with children in the birth-five years age group and can be accessed by clicking here.
