Urgent update for all Queensland Catholic school members
A Single Bargaining Unit (SBU) meeting was held today (27 November 2019).
Employer representatives have agreed to consult with employing authorities and explore proposals which might bring negotiations to a conclusion.
Employee representative made it clear that key elements of any outcome were a commitment to backpay and a more meaningful intervention into workload and work intensification.
Employer representatives advised that with the suspension of the work bans they would not be issuing the notices under section 471(4) of the Fair Work Act 2009. The notices would have meant that an employee undertaking a work ban would have their wages withheld until the bans ceased and employers would have refused to accept the performance of any work by the employee until the bans ceased.
Employee representatives have proposed a further SBU meeting on Wednesday, 4 December 2019.
Employer representatives have the absolute power to conduct a ballot on a proposed agreement but did not advise that they intended to do so.
A more detailed briefing of the outcomes of today’s meeting will be forwarded to IEUA-QNT members tomorrow.
