Professional development scholarships – apply now!
Applications are now open for the 2019 NGS Super Scholarship Awards, which provide passionate education staff an opportunity to win one of six $5,000 scholarships.
The scholarships are open to all NGS Super members working in Catholic or independent schools across Australia.
NGS is our union’s recommended super fund for members, which recently merged with our previously recommended fund, QIEC Super.
The scholarships are a great opportunity for education workers to take their career to the next level while also giving back to the broader education sector by focusing on a professional development course, project or an initiative of their choice.
Applications are open until Monday, 2 September 2019, with all winners to be announced just before World Teacher’s Day on 3 October 2019.
The awards continue to grow each year, emphasising NGS Super’s strong commitment to supporting the teachers, management and support staff of non-government schools in their careers. The goal is to improve the education sector, through initiatives that support the Australians on the front line of the industry.
Laura Wright, CEO of NGS Super, said she is proud of what last year’s scholarship award winners have achieved so far and encourages all those working in Catholic and independent education to step forward and apply for this year.

One of last year’s winners, Diana Webster (pictured) from Abbotsleigh in New South Wales, is a Social Sciences teacher with a passion for sharing knowledge and skills to help students become global citizens.
Her project took her to Uganda, where she worked with thirteen other teachers from Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA on a three-week teacher-training course aiming to upskill local Ugandan teachers, based on the Limited Resources Training (LRTT) model, a global education social enterprise set up by teachers, for teachers.
“The LRTT model is based on research showing that teaching quality is the most important factor influencing learning, more so than computers or new textbooks or smaller classes. It’s all about getting every child in every classroom really learning, and empowering teachers to provide quality education.”
“With teaching, by the end of every day you’ve had some kind of moment that matters, whether with a student, or a colleague, or both.”
“It is my hope that if we can continue encouraging and supporting programs like LRTT’s, with help from groups like NGS, over time, even as individuals we can make a positive difference.”
