School Officer Day 2018

School Officer Day - Wednesday, 13 June 2018

Supporting Quality Education

Dear Colleague

On Wednesday, 13 June 2018, IEUA-QNT members across Queensland and the Northern Territory will mark School Officer Day by taking the opportunity to recognise how our school officers and services staff support quality education.

The day is an initiative of our union and the New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI) TE RIU ROA, reflecting a resolution passed at the 7th Education International (EI) World Congress in 2015 to create a global celebration known as International Education Support Staff Day.

IEUA-QNT Chapters are encouraged to celebrate School Officer Day on Wednesday, 13 June by:

•holding a School Officer Day morning tea; and

• personally inviting all school officers and services staff who have not yet joined our union to do so.

Supporting quality education

This annual celebration day gives visibility and recognition to the work of school officers and services staff in supporting quality education while also acknowledging the particular professional issues they face.

Inconsistent pay, casualisation, a lack of professional development and recognition – these are just some of the issues which education support staff are continuing to fight against as part of our union and through the national Change The Rules campaign.

Celebration morning tea

IEUA-QNT Chapters are encouraged to celebrate the day and the theme Supporting Quality Education by holding a School Officer Day morning tea.

To assist in promoting School Officer Day, one poster for each of your Chapter’s Staff Rooms has been enclosed with this briefing, along with a sticker for every Chapter member to wear as part of the celebrations on Wednesday 13 June.

Chapters are also asked to share photographs of their School Officer Day celebrations by emailing high resolution images to communications@qieu.asn.au for inclusion in our union’s publications and online. Any photos posted to social media on the day should be tagged #supportingschools

A personal invitation

Chapter Executive members are asked to discuss the importance of teachers and school officers joining together and to extend a personal invite to all school officers and services staff who have not yet joined our union to do so. A number of membership forms have been included in this kit to assist you in talking to your colleagues about the importance of joining our union. You can also encourage your colleagues to join online via our website: www.qieu.asn.au/join

I look forward to your Chapter’s participation in School Officer Day 2018.

Kind regards

TERRY BURKE
