Additional $2,400 maternity leave payment secured through union assistance
A member has had her maternity leave payments secured after seeking assistance from our union’s Member Services Team.
When the member took maternity leave earlier this year, her school presented a calendar for her maternity leave dates for the year.
After seeking advice from our union’s Member Services Team, it was discovered that our member was entitled to be paid for a further two weeks of maternity leave.
Our Member Services Team reviewed the calculation and advised the member to contact her school to clarify the maternity leave dates provided and address the error in the maternity leave calculation.
Once the employer was notified of the error, the calculation was amended to reflect the missing pay – resulting in our member gaining over $2,400 of otherwise lost maternity leave payments.
This allowed our member to rightfully enjoy a further two weeks of maternity leave with her newborn.
