Changes to Senior Secondary Assessment – New Draft Syllabuses Open for Feedback

teacher_with_highschool_students_web_qual.pngAs the QCAA continues to work towards introduction of new Senior Secondary assessment and tertiary entrance procedures, four new draft syllabus documents have been released via the QCAA website.

The new draft syllabuses cover the subjects Physical Education, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Essential English and Essential Mathematics and QCAA is seeking feedback from practising teachers.

When redeveloping syllabuses, writing teams draft a syllabus in consultation with Learning Area Reference Groups (LARGs) comprised of practising teachers and academics, as well as stakeholder group representatives.

The process of redeveloping and revising senior syllabuses has been underway since 2016, with three consecutive drafts of each syllabus released for feedback from the wider education community and refinements made after each response period.

Feedback periods for most subject syllabuses have now closed, but it is important that teachers continue to engage with the process for those subjects still undergoing redevelopment.

We encourage all members with an interest in the subject areas above to register their feedback via the QCAA’s online survey prior to the closing dates of Friday 2nd June (Physical Education) and Friday 9th June (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Essential English and Essential Mathematics).
