Celebrate School Officer Day & #CAREERSTHATMATTER

SO_Day_social_media_banner_2.png

On Wednesday 14 June 2017, IEUA-QNT members across Queensland and the Northern Territory will celebrate School Officer Day. The day is an opportunity to recognise #CAREERSTHATMATTER and say thank you to our school officers, administrative staff and services staff.

Celebrate with a special morning tea!

IEUA-QNT Chapters have been encouraged to show their support by hosting a morning tea celebration.

Your IEUA-QNT Chapter Representative has been sent School Officer Day stickers for all members to wear at the morning tea celebration.

Remember to send any photos from your morning tea to communications@qieu.asn.au for inclusion in union publications and online.

Why we celebrate School Officer Day

School officers, administrative staff and services staff undertake important roles in our schools. From administrators to librarians and laboratory technicians to learning support and teacher aides, their careers greatly enhance students’ education.

Yet across the world, these staff experience significant issues relating to their working conditions. Poor pay, casualisation, a lack of professional development and recognition – these are just some of the global issues which education support staff continue to fight against.

The day is an initiative of our union and the New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI) TE RIU ROA, reflecting a resolution passed at the 7th Education International (EI) World Congress in 2015 to create a global celebration held every June known as International Education Support Staff Day.

We look forward to having other countries joining us in the future to mark an even bigger celebration of School Officer Day and #CAREERSTHATMATTER.
