Free workshop: Successful Prep for Children with Autism

A free workshop will be held in Woolloongabba on Thursday 31 March to provide early career Prep teachers with training in educating children with autism.

About this session

This introductory level workshop aims to provide early career Prep teachers with information and advice on making their classrooms inclusive for all students, including those with autism. Simple environmental and instructional adjustments in the Prep classroom can make a positive difference in the way students’ engage with the curriculum, demonstrate their learning and interact with peers.

  • This workshop will provide participants with:
  • Increased awareness of the learning needs of Prep students with autism
  • Practical evidence based strategies for students with autism to access and engage with the curriculum and their peers
  • Tips for partnering with parents and carers
  • Support mechanisms within a school and regional context.

The workshop is aligned with the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:

Standard 1 Know students and how they learn

1.1 Physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students

1.2 Understand how students learn

1.5 Differentiate teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities

1.6 Strategies to support full participation of students with disability
