This presentation will introduce teachers to the depth and breadth of Indigenous resources available to classroom teachers and their students.

Presenter Vanessa Kerley has worked in Indigenous education for ten years. As a non-Indigenous person, Vanessa understands the challenges many teachers face when it comes to embedding Indigenous perspectives into their learning programs, as mandated in the curriculum.

Vanessa will share some examples of teacher-friendly/student-friendly resources that can be used in the classroom all year round. She will also explore how knowledge and understanding of Indigenous pedagogies can enhance learning for all students as well as being another way of embedding an Indigenous perspective. All children need to see something of themselves and their lives reflected in the books, videos, music, posters, toys and games that are used in their classrooms. Teachers need to know how they can create learning spaces that allow this to happen.

This session is targeted at Primary and Secondary classroom teachers.
