We have written to all education employing authorities in Queensland and the Northern Territory seeking their immediate endorsement of our Charter of Action.

The charter sets out the following areas and specific employer commitments that must be confirmed and adhered to, including:
In cases where an employee must be away from work due to COVID-19 our union would expect employers to provide special paid leave of at least 10 days for the employee’s normal hours of duty during that time.
Special paid leave should be provided without an employee needing to exhaust their leave entitlements.
In the case of school closure, staff should be provided alternative work arrangements or full pay without needing to access their leave entitlements.
We have school employees with pre-existing medical conditions, at an age of vulnerability and with family members with serious immune deficiencies. The risk for these employees is too great; they need special protections.
