C&K, it's time to CUT the CUTS!

C&K (Creche & Kindergarten Association), Queensland’s largest early childhood education provider, claims to be an employer of choice for women.

So why are they trying to strip women employees of conditions key to their financial future?


**CAMPAIGN UPDATE: 1 March 2017**

Member action protects conditions and delivers additional Director time!

The collective action of members in C&K Branch Centres has protected working conditions which reflect the standards generally applicable in other Queensland education sectors.

As a result of member's ongoing campaign, C&K has finally agreed to CUT the CUTS! and protect existing conditions for employees in C&K Branch Centres.

As a result of the most recent negotiation meeting (held 24 February 2017), our union member's action has ensured the superannuation co-contribution scheme has been protected and will remain available to all employees, both existing and new.

Members call for more time for Directors to do their job has also finally been heard with C&K now offering 10 hours per annum of release time for Directors available by application. 

This news comes after earlier community support and member action resulted in C&K scrapping its proposed cuts to redundancy payments and employees' vacation time.

**CAMPAIGN UPDATE: January 2017**

Despite the beginning of a new year, C&K has not provided any further consideration to protect employees’ working conditions or the quality of education provided in C&K Branch centres.

C&K instead remains steadfast in its resolve to not even take the initial steps needed to address the issues surrounding Director time.

In addition and despite their claim to be an employer of choice for women, C&K are also maintaining their shameful position of cutting employee access to superannuation co-contributions for those not currently accessing the provision (including future employees). Such a cut has the potential to deny employees access to tens of thousands of dollars of additional funds for their retirement.

With C&K continuing to seek cuts to key financial entitlements and failing to address the employee claim for additional time for Directors, members are maintaining their campaign to tell C&K it’s time to CUT the CUTS!

IEUA-QNT members (C&K teachers and assistants) are currently in negotiations with C&K for a new agreement to cover the working conditions of employees in its Branch Centres.

In early November 2016, C&K made it clear that teachers and assistants in Branch Centres, the majority of who are women, would only receive contemporary wages if they agree to give up significant existing working conditions. 

C&K has set out to cut conditions for Branch Centre employees in three key areas:

Cut superannuation access and entitlements 

Employee superannuation co-contributions would be cut for all employees, other than those currently accessing the scheme. This would effectively create two tiers of employees in C&K Branch centres – those who are able to access a better retirement income and those who will be denied the opportunity to do so.

Cut redundancy payments

Under C&K's initial proposal, redundancy payments would have been cut to the very minimum allowed by the National Employment Standards (NES). With C&K having closed a number of centres in 2016, maintaining current redundancy provisions is critical for employees who may be affected.

Cut into employee’s vacation time 
(Now protected thanks to member action and community support!)

C&K wanted to cut employees’ vacation time by requiring them to perform additional work (including administration duties) during their recess or vacation time.
