Children can experience trauma in a variety of ways from a variety of sources.
A trauma or fight or flight response can be activated by global events and the fear for their safety. Personal traumatic events can occur in the home, the school in any aspect of a young person's life.
Everyone's response to a stressful, traumatic event will be different making if hard to understand why someone may be more distressed in a situation, than another person in the same position. It can be challenging to know how to best support them.
This session will look at how traumatised children can feel safe and included in the school community, what material and resources are available to support students and what steps to take to ensure the clasroom remains a safe space for students to discuss issues.
