Crazy Hair Day

Schools and early childhood centres are encouraged to join in the fun of the Leukaemia Foundation’s 2012 World's Greatest Shave by holding a Crazy Hair Day 4 Kids on Friday, 16 March 2012 with all proceeds to support leukaemia patients.

Crazy Hair Day gives children the opportunity to participate in one of the nation’s largest fundraisers by colouring their hair with temporary colour spray for a gold coin donation.

The first 1,000 Crazy Hair Day registrations will receive a FREE kit courtesy of Cinta Intense Colour Hair Spray and the Leukaemia Foundation - to help them hold their most colourful assembly. Each kit contains six cans of coloured hairspray, a cape, collection bucket and posters.

All funds raised from Crazy Hair Day will help the Leukaemia Foundation continue to provide free practical care and support for patients living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders including accommodation and counselling, as well as fund exciting research into improved treatments and cures.

World’s Greatest Shave is an annual event that is supported by up to 40,000 Queenslanders who bravely shave or colour their hair to help raise vital funds to continue the work of the Leukaemia Foundation. The Foundation hopes to raise $4 million through the 2012 World’s Greatest Shave.

Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland acting Chief Executive Officer, Keiran Mylrea said World’s Greatest Shave 2012 was more important than ever as the Foundation continues its investment in critical medical research and extends its accommodation facilities to cater for increasing demand.

“The Leukaemia Foundation will have more home-away-from-home style apartments available to patients in Townsville and Brisbane from mid 2012, reducing the need to place patients undergoing intensive medical treatment in motel rooms; a situation that is far from ideal,” Mr Mylrea said.

“Support and care of patients is our number one priority and this can only be achieved with the generosity of individuals, businesses and community organizations contributing to fundraising events like World’s Greatest Shave.”

“I encourage schools to get on board for World’s Greatest Shave and host their own Crazy Hair Day to have a bit of fun while raising funds and showing their support for blood cancer patients who often lose their hair while undergoing treatment.”
