PROFESSIONAL RATES OF PAY CAMPAIGN
QIEU’s campaign for professional rates of pay has the goal of ensuring that Queensland teachers do not remain amongst the lowest paid in the country.
On Friday, 23 April 2010 QIEU released a media release announcing a significant breakthrough in negotiations with Catholic employers. Employers put on the table a revised wage offer of $84,421 per annum for Classification - Experienced Teachers (ET6). Chapters were asked to return a signed fax back by Thursday, 29 April 2010 showing their support to endorse this fair wage deal.
On Tuesday, 4 May 2010 QIEU released a media release which announced members had endorsed the wage deal.
This deal comes at the end of a long campaign for professional recognition from Catholic employers. After 14 months of negotiations, members are to be congratulated on their collective resolve and show of solidarity throughout the period of negotiations.
This outcome shows that teachers in Catholic schools will not stand back and accept a wage deal that undermines their working rights and conditions. Queensland teachers in Catholic schools have come far and stood up for their colleagues, their students and the future of Catholic education in this State.
