Outdoor education agreement on the horizon

16 January 2012: Following the sale of Edmund Park, an outdoor education centre that was previously owned by St Edmunds College in Ipswich, IEUA-QNT is ensuring members employed at the facility retain the entitlements outlined by their collective agreements until a new agreement specific to their roles is negotiated.

Registrations open for Schools Clean Up Day 2012

Australian schools are encouraged to do their bit for the environment and win great prizes by taking part in Schools Clean Up Day on Friday, 2 March 2012 . In 2011, over 2,400 schools took part in Schools Clean Up Day. Together with communities and businesses Australian schools helped to remove over 16,000 tonnes of rubbish right across Australia.

IEU welcomes funding injection but pay inequity remains an issue across ECE sector

The Independent Education Union (IEU) welcomes the Federal Government's announcement today of a $10 million injection into the early childhood training sector and an expansion of the HECS-HELP scheme. But IEU Federal Secretary Chris Watt said although the measures were welcome, they would not resolve the ongoing shortage of qualified staff across the sector while pay inequity remained an issue.

IEU Submission to Gonski Review of School Funding

The Independent Education Union, in a submission to the Gonski Review into School Funding, has called for four main points to be addressed, and for these points to be the backbone of any changes to the school funding system. IEU federal secretary Chris Watt said the IEU supported the Gonksi Review into school funding, but it was vital that the IEU's key points be addressed.

Government super contributions could rise to 12%

03 November 2011: A bill that would raise the superannuation guarantee from nine to 12 per cent if passed entered the House of Representatives yesterday. An employee aged under 30 earning about $70,000 would retire with an added $108,000 of superannuation under the proposed reforms.
